Age 85
James Albert Puhek – a lifelong resident of Spokane – passed away at home Jan. 28, 2016. He was born on Jan. 10, 1931 in Trentwood, WA to Mary (Cebull) and Jacob Puhek and had one brother Rudolph Puhek (1985).
He graduated from West Valley High School in 1948 and soon began his career with the Washington Air National Guard at Geiger Field. He served in the Korean War, returned home and continued serving with the Air Guard as Chief Master Sergeant at Fairchild AFB until retiring in 1991.
Jim was married to his devoted and loving wife Rita Jean (Fitzsimmons) in Butte, MT on Oct. 16, 1954 and they lived in Spokane for the next 54 years together before her passing in 2008.
They had three sons: Dr. Thomas Puhek (Pennie) of Las Vegas, NV, Robert P. Puhek (1980), and Timothy P. Pukek (Sally) of Salem, OR. He had one grandson, Samuel F. Puhek, also of Salem, OR.
He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church for over 55 years and an active member of the Assumption Men’s Club. He was also a life time member of the Greater Spokane Elks Lodge. He had a passion for early model jet aircraft, and from building his own boat to making furniture there was nothing he could not do or fix.
Jim was more than a loving husband, incredible father, grandfather, mentor and admired friend. Kind, patient and unassuming, he faced life’s obstacles with dignity, unwavering resolve and a joyful spirit! He truly made a difference in the lives of all who were fortunate to know him.
Arrangements have been made at Hennessy Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at Hennessey Funeral Home (2203 N. Division) on Wed., Feb. 3 from 4 to 7pm with a rosary to follow starting at 7 pm. His Funeral Mass will be Thurs., Feb. 4 at 10 am at Assumption Catholic Church (3624 W. Indian Trail Rd.)
