ALICIA MATZINGER
January 13, 1921- July 31, 2017
Alicia Rasco Matzinger (96) passed away peacefully at Faith Adult Family Home on Monday, July 31, 2017. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Alicia was born and raised in Cuba. In 1942 she married Charles Merrill Matzinger. They had two children: Merrill Stanley Matzinger and Caridad Edith Matzinger, both born in the United States. The family lived in Cuba until 1960 when they were forced to move to Belvedere, CA because of Castro’s Cuban Revolution. Alicia also spent many summer and winters hiking and skiing up at Alta, UT. During this time she and Merrill traveled throughout the United States and Spain as lay workers for the Catholic Better World Movement. Although Alicia and Merrill divorced in 1976, they remained lifelong friends. In 2013, Alicia moved to Spokane to be close to her daughter. Alicia is remembered by her family as a woman who loved to hike, ski, dance Flamenco, and discuss politics. She created some wonderful parties. She also read much and wrote articles about her Catholic faith. She loved children and animals and helped out many people in her life. Her presence will be missed. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 7PM in the Rose Chapel at Hennessey Funeral Home on Division. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 4th at 10 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 505 W St. Thomas More Way with interment immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery.
