MOCKEL, BETTY JEAN (AGE 94)

Betty went to join her Heavenly Father and husband Rudy on May 24, 2017.  She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children and family.  Mom was born June 7, 1922 in Tacoma, WA to Cecilia and Roy Helm.  She graduated from Stadium High School and soon after started work at the Tacoma Shipyards as a key punch operator.  Mom would meet the love of her life, Rudy Mockel and marry on June 5, 1948.  They would share their love for the next 63 years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy and brother Robert Helm.  They lived in Tacoma and Seattle before moving to Spokane, WA in June 1961.  She would spend the next 56 years on the South Hill.  She loved to cook, garden, write poetry and play her piano.  She was a wonderful mother to her five Children;  Rudy (Terri) Mesa, AZ, Mary (Bert) Cheney, Ray (Cheryl), Colleen (Jerry) Descoteaux and Joe (Kelly) all of Spokane.  She was also a proud grandma to 13 grandchildren; Heather, Hilary, Rudy, Sarah, Molly, Kyle, Karyn, Amy, Matt, Jared, Hannah, Joelle and Natalie.  She also loved her 12 great-grandchildren; Stayce, Blayze, Danyka, Cameron, Sophie, Luke, Lily, Addison, Ruth,Lily, Mason and Presley.  She also remained close to her niece, Linda McBride and nephew, Rob Helm.  Betty was a long-time member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church and loved her visits with neighbors and friends.  A special thanks goes out to Father Bob and all her loving caregivers over the past several years. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 30, 2017  from 1-5 PM at Hennessey Funeral Home on Division.  Rosary will be Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 10:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 428 W. 19th Ave, Spokane, WA. Graveside Service will be at 2:00PM at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall St, Spokane, WA.  A special thanks goes out to Hospice of Spokane for all their kind support during this tearful time.  Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Hospice of Spokane, P O Box 2215, Spokane, WA  99210.  Online condolences may be posted at www.hennesseyfuneralhomes.com.
