Dorothy was born to Martin & Anna Tofley, July 5, 1928, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Spokane, WA. She passed away peacefully November 27, 2017, at Spokane Hospice House South. A lifelong resident of Spokane, Dorothy attended Adams Elementary & Marycliff High School. She moved with her family for a time to Pasadena, California, with the family eventually returning to Spokane. She held various jobs, while making many life-long friends along the way. She met her husband, Joe Pernsteiner, while working at a local dental office. They were married in November, 1959, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Dorothy was an avid gardener & animal lover, while being a farm wife & mother on Joe’s family farm. In 1981, they moved to the Deer Park area for 20 years on a farm. They then moved back to Spokane, where she cared for Joe until his death in 2002. She had a kind heart and was a very generous person. She always put others first, keeping everyone she knew in her prayers. She also loved painting, drawing, & Mickey Mouse. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Martin & Anna Tofley, sister Marie Kyker, & husband Joe Pernsteiner. Survived by son Jim (Wanda); grandson Jacob (Stephanie); four great-grandchildren, Alissa, Kailyn, Maxx, & Emiley; sister, June Pierce; nieces Sue (Ashley) Holliday & children, Patty (Craig) Weichel & children, Barbara Niebrueggi, Loraine Lowdon; nephew Paul (Christie) Pierce, and numerous other nieces & nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Peter’s Catholic Church or Hospice of Spokane would be greatly appreciated. Rosary service Thursday, November 30, at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N Division at 6:30 PM. Funeral Mass Friday, December 1, at 11:00 AM, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 3520 E. 18th Avenue. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
