He served in the army air corps from 1940 to 1945.  He was discharged with a rank of Technical Sergeant.  He was stationed in Panama, California and Moses Lake.  While in Moses Lake the soldiers would come to the Davenport Hotel to dance.  There on a blind date he met his future wife Marian McNevin.  They married and spent 67 years of a happy life together.  He joked that they met in the revolving door of the Davenport and started going around together.  George worked most of his life as a traveling salesman for J Hamberg and Sweet Candy Co.  His route included; Washington, Idaho and Montana.  He opened his own brokerage, the River City Co., in the 1980s.  George is an accomplished calligrapher and poet.  People enjoyed receiving his Christmas or birthday cards decorated with his fancy writing.  He loved to write poems especially about his family.  In 1979 at the age of 62 his son Garry challenged him to run Bloomsday.  He did and ended up running for more than 25 years, many times winning his age group.  Running became his passion.  He ran many fun runs, races, and marathons in Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Colorado.  His most notorious running accomplishment was a second place finish at the Masters Marathon in 1992 at the age of 76.  He was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marian in December of 2012.  He is also preceded by his parents, a sister Laura and a brother Marion.  He is survived by his son Garry of Seattle, his daughter Kathy (Terry) Baker of Spokane, grandsons George and Daniel and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Hennessey Funeral Home on Monday 2/26, beginning at 4:00 PM and concluding at 6:00 with a vigil service.  Funeral Mass will be said on Tuesday 2/27 at 11:00 at St. Charles Catholic Church with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.     Memorials are suggested to House of Charity, P.O.
