After graduating from Michigan High School in 1943, her sister gave her a train ticket to go to Seattle, Wa. At the tender age of 17 she joined the International Brotherhood of Boiler Makers, Iron Ship Builders and Helpers of America, where she became a welderette (they called her Diamond Lil) at Sea - Tac Shipyards. She helped weld many Navy vessels for WWII.

Lillian had many wonderful memories of fishing and camping at Loon Lake with her family, friends, and our cousins and then eventually buying land and building a cabin at Shore Acres.Meanwhile, Lillian waitressed at the Hotel Spokane, Desert Hotel and the Ridpath Hotel.  She ended her work career as Head Hostess at Lilac Plaza Retirement Center.

After Joe passed away she traveled the world with her second husband, Jack Hannum. She was a lifetime member of St  Ann Church, the VFW 1435, and a member of Southside and East Central Senior Centers. The neighbors considered her the pillar of her neighborhood and she was the matriarch of her family. She loved her garden of raspberries, tomatoes, beans and basil. Her flowers of peonies, snap dragons, geraniums and she was most proud of her tulips.Lillian loved food, wine, wine tastings, and bingo.
