Maureen Trudell, aged 68, died suddenly on the evening of June 6.  She is survived by her: children Joe and Michelle Trudell (Wasihun Tadessa); grandchildren Addiswa, Zahara and Zewdae Tadessa; sister Cathy Mabbutt (Chick) and brother Patrick Freeman (Anne).  Her brother Kevin predeceased her.

She also is survived by numerous individuals who were placed with her by the Washington Department of Children and Family Services over four decades.  They arrived as foster children but, whether they spent a few days or a few years with her, they forever joined Maureen’s extended family.  Orphaned when young, then the guardian of her brothers from age 19, she was a fierce advocate for children who needed a chance as well as some sardonic tough love.

Gifts in Maureen’s memory may be made to the National Foster Parent Association.  An informal potluck style celebration of her life will be held September 9th at Franklin Park (in Spokane at Division & Queens) from 1-5pm.
