JUDGE WILLIAM JOSEPH GRANT

William J. Grant passed away November 19, 2017 in Spokane WA. Born November 18, 1922 in Spokane, he was the son of Terry T. Grant and Marie Kenney Grant. His parents, his wife Peggy and his brother Jerome preceded him in death. He graduated from Gonzaga Prep in 1940 and attended Gonzaga College until he entered the US Naval Academy, graduating in 1946. He served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Antietam in support of the Allied occupation of North China, Manchuria and Korea. After sea duty he taught seamanship and navigation at the Naval Academy. In 1948 he married Margaret Anne (Peggy) Walsh of Flushing New York. After Naval Service he and Peggy moved to Spokane where they made their home. He graduated from Gonzaga School of Law, served as a deputy prosecutor and practiced law for 19 years as a partner in the law firm Dellwo, Rudolf and Grant. He instructed at Gonzaga School of Law as well. He served as a Superior Court Judge in Spokane for 19 years and received the Law School award for Distinguished Judicial Service. He is survived by six children: Anne Marie (Jeff) Aiken, Terence Grant, Margaret Grant, Maura (Kenny) Shawhan, Mary Frances (Sean) O’Loughlin and Patricia (Mehdi) Jafari. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Rosary will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1517 E. 33rd, Spokane WA on Thursday November 30, 2017 at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass Friday December 1, 2017, 11:00am. Reception to follow at the church. Private family burial at St. Joseph Cemetery Spokane Valley WA
