Anne “Lorraine” Troyer age 94 passed away on March 15th, 2018 at Hospice of Spokane. Lorraine was born to Alfred & Anna Martell in St John, ND where she and her sister grew up on the family farm. Lorraine received her degree from the North Dakota School of Forestry. Breaking from tradition, Lorraine left ND with a couple of her friends to work for Boeing in Seattle during WWII, then down to Portland to work for the Veterans Administration where she met her husband John P “Jack” Troyer. They were married May 31st, 1947 in Portland, OR and moved to Spokane in the early 50’s.
Lorraine was a fabulous cook and baker and loved making treats for the neighborhood kids, bake sales, birthday parties and sleep overs. Kids would come from all around as they seemed to know there was always something good going on in the Troyer household. She was caring, compassionate and kind and was always there for anyone that needed someone to listen. Lorraine was also an amazing seamstress, quilter and needle pointer where her attention to detail flourished. She loved being with family and friends and played a wicked game of bridge with her group of many years. We will miss you but your love for all living things will live on through those you touched.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Jack and is survived by her three children Irene Ornovitz (Henry) of New Providence, NJ, Tim Troyer and Lori Troyer, both of Spokane, 3 grandchildren, Avital Ornovitz, Jennifer Ornovitz, Joshua Ornovitz and her sister, Loretta Cornell of Fargo, ND.
A memorial service and reception following will be held April 7th at 2pm at St Stephens Episcopal Church located at 5720 S Perry St. Please come join us in celebrating Lorraine’s life. In lieu of flowers please send your gift to Hospice of Spokane
