Tribute

Audrey Mae Gilpatrick passed away September 24, 2021 at the Rockwood South Hill retirement community. She was born August 25,1924 in Oak Park, Illinois, graduated from Benson High in Omaha, Nebraska and received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Illinois. She married Thomas S. Gilpatrick, M.D. in 1948. Together in Spokane they raised their two children, Susan Gilpatrick Taylor of San Bruno, CA and David Russell Gilpatrick of Portland, OR. During these family years, Audrey was active on the Spokane Civic Theatre’s play-reading committee, the Spokane Symphony’s women’s club and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Spokane Medical Association. In fact, throughout our childhood our mom was always headed to some meeting somewhere. She also enjoyed playing golf, bowling and spending summers water-skiing on Lake Coeur d’Alene at her beloved lake cabin.

Audrey and Tom divorced in 1972, and in 1996 Audrey found love the second time around with her partner, Ross Boreson. They moved to Lompoc, CA where he sadly passed away in 2006, and she returned to Spokane’s Rockwood South Hill to begin the final chapter of her life. She was President of the Residents Council during Rockwood’s 50th year celebration, and she enjoyed giving speeches and representing the resident community. A Board member of Spokane Group Health, she was honored as an outstanding contributor. She also attended Manito Methodist Church until she could no longer drive.

Audrey will be remembered for her friendly out-going personality, her positive attitude toward life, practical wisdom and an insatiable appetite for chocolate!

A small memorial is planned for later this fall – please check the Hennessey website for more details. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rockwood South Hill Employee Assistance Fund.
