Betty Z Scott

April 7, 1926 ~ May 19, 2023 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Tribute

Betty Zane Graven Scott, 97, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2023.
She had been a resident of Rockwood at Whitworth (Hawthorne), for almost 20 years.

Betty was born April 7, 1926, in New Bridge, Oregon. She was the youngest of seven children of Cecil and Cora Graven. Born and raised in Eagle Valley, Baker County, it was always a special place to her.

She met her future husband, Harmon Scott at local dance. They married June 15, 1946, in Spokane, WA, and moved to Yakima, WA. It was there where their two children were born. Due to Harmon’s work for Western Electric Company, the family moved quite a few times, living on the East Coast, and finally returning to the West Coast in 1963.

Settling in San Jose, CA, and after seeing her youngest off to college, Betty decided to continue her college education. She received a Master’s Degree in Library Science from San Jose State College. She worked for several years at Nuclear Services as the librarian. When Harmon retired in the 1970’s, they moved to Port Angeles, WA, where Betty worked in the local library. The next move was to Lake Stevens, WA, and there is where Betty worked as the research librarian at the Snohomish County Law Library. She enjoyed that very much. It was while working there, she had the opportunity to travel with other librarians to China, an experience that she so much enjoyed.

Betty and Harmon moved to Spokane in 1992 and Betty began her volunteer work with Friends of the Library, which continued even after they moved into the long-term care facility. Besides reading, Betty enjoyed quilting, and visiting with family and friends.

Family was very special to Betty. She was very close to all her brothers and sisters. Betty was a very warm and caring lady, who always put family first. We were very blessed to have Mom and Grandma for so long. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon, and her granddaughter Aimee Lilles Zeff. She is survived by son, Ronald (Linda), and grandson Joseph Scott, daughter Linda Lilles, and grandchildren Alex Lilles, Milena Lilles, and great-granddaughter Maia.

Per Betty’s request, there will be no services. She will be returned to her Eagle Valley to rest with Harmon. Memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Spokane Public Library.
