Dan graduated from John Rogers HS in 1951 where he was an "All City" Drummer in the HS band, which earned him a scholarship to Eastern Washington State College. He turned down the scholarship to enter the US Navy in December 1951. He served his Country honorably for the next 20 years. He served on 4 ships and a tug boat. He was stationed in Italy, Morocco, Rhode Island, San Francisco and Guam. He met his wife, Barbara Anne Douglas and married her in Rhode Island, where they had their only child Harold. After retiring from the Navy, he then started his schooling. He graduated from SFCC in 1975 and then EWU in 1977 with a degree in Social Work. He then proceeded to serve as the Director of the House of Charity for 17 years. After retirement he volunteered for a decade at the VA Hospital in Reno and Spokane.
