David William Floyd

August 21, 1941 ~ July 29, 2022 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Tribute

On Friday, July 29 of 2022, David W. Floyd passed away peacefully at home due to mesothelioma and the weariness it created. He was born in Lewiston, Idaho on August 21, 1941 to Lee and Anna Floyd. During his childhood, the family settled in Spokane where Dave attended North Central High School, graduating in 1959. He served in the United States Army from 1961-1962 and was stationed in Korea. Following his military service, Dave worked for many years as an installer for Western Electric/PNW Bell and AT&T until his retirement in 1997. He married Barbara Green on December 28, 1960, and the two of them renewed their vows on their 60th wedding anniversary.

An avid runner, Dave participated in the inaugural Bloomsday race and several more to follow. He frequently rode his bike to work when the weather permitted. His desire to stay fit rubbed off on the rest of his family as Dave, Barbara and the children set off on many family bike rides throughout Spokane to explore other neighborhoods. As Dave settled into retirement, he still rode his bike, went to the gym, and took great pleasure in attending his grandchildren's activities. He never missed a concert, performance or athletic event in which his children participated, and he maintained a similar commitment for his grandchildren's events. He was an avid book reader and never missed an episode of Jeopardy!  In 2004 Diamond Lake became Dave and Barb's new home, and it developed into a special place for their grown children and grandchildren.

Dave will be remembered for his ability to fix, repair or build nearly anything. Practically singlehandedly he built an entire addition to the family home on Providence, finished the basement, and handled any repairs, big or small, along the way. He was a tremendous resource for his children when they moved into their own homes, and he never hesitated to lend his expertise and labor.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Barbara, children Karen, Mike (Kim), and Jon (Stacie), five cherished grandchildren: Megan, Eric, Gabe, Dylan, and Lucas, and his brother Dennis (Helen).

The funeral will be a private ceremony at Washington State Veteran's Cemetery with family members present. Memorial contributions may be sent to Gonzaga Preparatory School at 1224 East Euclid, Spokane, WA 99207.
