Donald James Materne

Beloved father, grandfather, brother and husband passed away on October 12, 2018.  Don was cherished and loved by his family, especially his faithful and loving wife, Mary;  his sister Ann (Louie) Becker;  his children Michael (deceased), Mark, Diane (Ruben)Martinez, Amie (Michael)Cunneely,  Gina(Dan)Yeck and Lorean (Mark) Peterson. He will be missed dearly by his ten grandchildren, Ariel and Lilli Garcia-Materne,  Grace and Micheal Cunneely, Cristian Martinez,  Emma and Robert Yeck, and Nathan, Brianna, and MacKenzie Peterson. Don led a full and blessed life.  He started his life in Spokane, born to Lucy and Lafe Materne and graduated from North Central High School.  He then attended Gonzaga University and graduated in the Civil Engineering Program.  Don and his cousin Bob Materne ran Materne Bros. Construction.  Don was also the Inland Northwest AGC president in the 1970’s.   He built many of the roads in the area and had many government contracts.  His ability to bid a job was unsurpassed for many years.  He was very strong, intelligent and driven.  Don loved hunting and going to the hunting cabin and making his infamous turkey soup in the winter.  He left a long legacy. Don was confirmed into the Catholic Church on his last day where he will receive the full Glory of God.  His heart will be filled with love with his family next to him to celebrate his life.   A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, October 23rd at 6 PM at St. Francis Xavier, 545 E Providence with a Funeral Mass to follow there on Wednesday, October 24th at 11 AM.  A reception will follow the funeral mass at 12:30 PM at the St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church, 505 W St. Thomas More Way.  The Graveside Service will be at 3 PM at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N Wall.  Condolences and memories may be posted on this tribute page.
