Edward L Patterson

November 13, 1932 ~ July 30, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Edward Leroy Patterson passed away on July 30, 2017 at home in the company of his family; he was 84 years old. Edward “Ed” Patterson was born in Manhattan Beach, California.  After his service in the Army, Ed traveled throughout the Northwest doing construction work and loved to hunt with his sister and family before making Spokane, Washington. Ed lived in Spokane more than half a century. Here, he met and married his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Hoff. Ed completed a plumbing and pipefitters apprenticeship at Spokane Community College and continued working in the construction industry which included plumbing for the upcoming Expo 74 in what would become Riverfront Park. He then joined the Spokane Public School District 81 Maintenance Division and retired as Foreman Plumber in 1997. Ed was one of seven children to his parents Everett and Matilda Patterson.  Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty in September 1986, his parents and siblings; Pauline, Paul, Herbert, Bob and Cathy. He is survived by his brother Leonard and wife Dorothy, sons Dan and wife Chris, Mike and wife Johanna, daughter Cyndi and husband Eric; grandchildren Nick and wife Stephanie, Amanda and husband Nicholas, Justin, Rachel, Alicia and husband Josh, Dylan, Zack, Andrew, Jeremiah and A.J., Justin, Thomas, Camille, Brigham, Lydia and Evan; great grandchildren Pierson, Aubrey, FitzWilliam, Lincoln, Cormac and Quaid.  Ed loved his family, friends and his home in the country near Spokane where he could do wood working and hobbies while watching the deer, hummingbirds, turkeys and other wild life with his two cats, two birds and his beloved 15 year old dog Pepper who passed away one year ago.  After the passing of his wife, Ed joined New Life Christian group and remained close with his circle of friends and his in-laws while traveling, enjoying activities such as building cannons and more. Through it all, Dad enjoyed being out and sharing time with others. The “Patterson” twinkle in his eye meant that a joke, a good old political conversation or a little bit of trouble was on its way. His extensive knowledge of how to, his historical knowledge of so many topics and so much more will be dearly missed.

Viewing will be held at Hennessey Smith Funeral home from 9am to 8pm Friday the 11th of August. Mass will be held with a reception to follow on Saturday, August 12th 11am at St. Joseph’s Parish in Colbert, Washington – 3720 E Colbert Rd., Colbert, WA 99005.

Dad supported the Union Gospel Mission especially their Thanksgiving Meal each year – donations in lieu of flowers would help to continue those efforts to support them in honor of Dad.
