Tribute

Eleanor Evelyn Monte, 100, passed away at Providence Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, WA on Jan 14, 2022. Eleanor was the seventh child of Giuseppi and Rosina Migliuri, immigrants who came to America in 1908 from Serra Pedace, Italy. Family was all-important to Eleanor and she and her siblings remained close-knit throughout their lives.   Eleanor graduated from North Central High School in 1939.  She met the love of her life, Nat Monte, and they were married on Valentine’s Day in 1942 and were married for 41 years until his death in 1983. They had two daughters, Natalie and Deanna. Eleanor became an early advocate of “women’s lib” when she joined the work force in 1950 – a rarity in that era.   She began her career as a receptionist in a pediatrician’s office, and when she retired 43 years later in 1993, she was Executive Assistant to the President and CEO of Hollister-Stier Laboratories. Eleanor was a member of Executive Women International for over 20 years. She was elected President in 1982. She loved gardening especially her pansies and roses.  She had a wide circle of friends and a special way of touching people’s lives.  To the end, she was a super fan of Gonzaga University basketball.  She was most often described as a feisty little Italian spitfire. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings:  Angelina Esposito, Julia Lewis, Mary Allen, Robert Migliuri, Margaret Bowen, and George Migliuri.   Her survivors include daughters Natalie Rees (Lanny), Deanna Tiplin (Robert), grandchildren Scott Warner, Michael Warner, Derek Tiplin and Tiffany Brandvold, several great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A rosary and Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at St. Thomas More church in Spokane, with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.   Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hennessey Funeral Homes.
