Tribute

Ermaleen Schlaht was born in Elgin, North Dakota on August 29th, 1928 to Frank Valentine Hoerner and Emma Gilstrap. She married Roland Schlaht November 14th, 1946. They moved to Spokane, WA in 1949. He preceded her in death. They loved to entertain. She enjoyed listening to German music and eating German food. Roland and her grandmother never tired of cooking. She loved the holidays when she got together with her siblings and all the children.
She was a homemaker and raised two children, Dorothy and Joseph. Ermaleen enjoyed baking and made the best layer cakes. She always wanted to drive so Roland gave her the opportunity. She proceeded to drive into someone’s yard, there was no longer a desire to drive.
When her daughter married and moved to a farm in Colfax, WA. They would enjoy visiting on the holidays. When their three grandchildren, Crystal, Michael, and Mary came along visits included birthdays.
They loved to travel. Hawaii was one of many vacations they would enjoy together. She continued her travels when Roland was no longer with her. Now traveling with her siblings she went to Branson and Washington D.C. One spot she never missed on her travels was the gift shop. Lost track of her, go to the gift shop. She especially liked the craftsmanship of the Amish. If a craft show was going on anywhere count on her to be there.
Favorite activities were going to the casinos and bingo. When any of her grandchildren or great grandchildren visited her on bingo night, all had to participate. She would share her nickels and carful instruction and watch to make sure no one missed a number. She always seemed to win and had a pouch of nickels to prove it.
She loved her family and friends. She always remembered a birthday or Anniversary. As she got older, she made sure to put the dates on her calendar. Want advice? No worries… She was always there to give it!
She is survived by her children Dorothy Presnell (Portland, Oregon) and Joseph Schlaht (Spokane, Washington), three grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Brothers Lawrence Hoerner (Spokane Washington) and Joseph Hoerner (Las Vegas, Nevada) Sister Dorothy Thibeault (Seattle, Washington) and many nieces and nephews, friends, and relatives.

We will miss you!
