Grace Marie Buckholz (Gint) was born to Al and Nellie Frerich in Poplar, Montana on October 2, 1930, the third of five daughters. She passed away in Spokane on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. Grace moved to Spokane during high school and graduated from Marycliff High School. She attended Holy Names College and graduated in 1953. She taught history and Home Economics in Kahlotus Washington. In June of 1955, Grace married Robert Buckholz. After a short time in Portland and New York, Grace and Bob returned to Spokane and raised six children. Grace and Bob lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 12 years. They retired to spend several very happy years travelling throughout the United States in their 5th-wheel before settling again in Spokane. Bob and Grace were active with the Jacks & Jennys Square Dance club in Spokane and continued to dance in Concord, California. Grace was an active member of St Charles Parish where her children attended school. Grace was known for homemade jams, pies, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, and a cookie jar that was always full. She loved to read, sew, and played a serious game of bridge. Grace enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino. Preceded in death by Robert, her husband of 56 years, and her parents and sisters, Grace is survived by her children: Kathy (Garry) Rosman of Davenport, Karen (Jerry) Uppinghouse of Spokane, Bob (Cris) of Tahoma CA, Roger (Patti) of Rocklin CA, David (Cindy) of Granbury TX, Darin (Shelly) of Liberty Lake; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. Family picnics in the park took the whole park. Grace cherished family vacations including many trips to Newman, Priest, and Coeur d’Alene Lakes; a two-week trip to Disneyland in a station wagon with six children towing a 16’ trailer; ocean beaches along the Pacific coast; and winter holidays in Bend, Oregon. Family vacations only got better when the trips included her children’s spouses and grandchildren.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Mom. We are yours, always.
