Grace Marie Walton

On Sunday, February 21, 2021, Grace Marie Walton, our beloved Sister, Aunt, and Great Aunt of 89 years, a lifelong devout Catholic, took the final pilgrimage to the Great Cathedral, knocked on the doors of the Pearly Gate and was welcomed by The Father and a choir of every Angel in Heaven.  Her passing was peaceful, surrounded by loved ones, on a bright sunshine day. Born in Spokane, Washington, on October 5, 1931 to Theodore and Florence (Beck) Walton, Grace graduated from Marycliff High School in 1949, and, while working full time, she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree (cum laude) from Whitworth College in 1975.  Upon graduation from Marycliff, she began her 38 year career at AT&T. In addition to attending Sunday Mass at St. Aloysius every week (watching Mass on TV if in-person was not possible), Grace enjoyed travel, bird watching, wind chimes, and art. She doted on her niece, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, spoiling them with trips to Disneyland, sweets and toys, and helped with college tuition. She enjoyed reading the Spokesman Review, talking politics, and gossiping about supermarket tabloids which often produced her infectious laugh. Grace frequently donated to her favorite charities and politicians, loved Gonzaga University, and generously provided allowance to close relatives and neighbors in exchange for helping with chores around the house. “Treat yourself!” was her famous birthday catchphrase and See’s candy (hold the nuts please) was always on her wishlist.  

Grace was preceded in death by her parents and her brother John. She is survived by her brother James and his wife Kathleen, her niece Anne (Josh); her nephews Ian (Rose), Michael (Jaime), and Andrew (Sasha); her great nieces Mackenzie, Loralei, Sienna, and Lilian; and her great nephews Jackson, Hans, Isaac, Lincoln, and River; and numerous cousins. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at 330 Boone Ave, Spokane, WA 99202 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Als at same address. Grace was loved by all, and will be forever missed.
