Irma Elizabeth (Johann) Bloom, 96, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 12, 2019. Our Sweet Irma was born in Genesee, Idaho on September 11, 1922. She graduated from the Sacred Heart School of Nursing and worked as a Nurse Supervisor at Sacred Heart Hospital. She married Charles J. (Chuck) Bloom on June 17, 1944, and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage, prior to Chuck’s death in 2012. Irma spent much of her life as a homemaker, raising her four children and enjoyed gardening and sewing in her spare time. She returned to nursing after her children were grown, working for Drs. Schrock and Penna. Chuck and Irma were very active in the Lilac Festival Association for many years, culminating in them serving as President and First Lady in 1975. In retirement, she enjoyed golfing with Chuck and relaxing with friends and family in Spokane, California and Arizona. Irma is predeceased by her loving husband, Charles J., son, Richard C., son-in-law, Richard A. Shaw, sister, Gloria Tuttle and brother, Ronald Johann. She is survived by sister Irene Rutz, sister RaNae (Frank) Orsi, daughter Francine Shaw, son Steve (Linda), son Tom (Mary), 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A rosary will be held at 6:00 pm January 21 in the Rose Chapel at Hennessey’s. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am January 22 at Assumption Catholic Church (3624 W. Indian Trail Rd.), followed by a luncheon. Interment will follow at 1:00 pm at Holy Cross Cemetery (7200 N. Wall St.). Memorial contributions can be made to Poor Clare Nuns of Spokane. We would like to thank Irma’s caregiver family at Fairwood Memory Care for their kindness, loving care and professionalism over the last six and a half years.
