Jeanne Dorothy (Cannon) Sweeney

October 27, 1922 ~ March 30, 2021 (age 98)

Jeanne Dorothy (Cannon) Sweeney passed away March 30, 2021 at the age of ninety-eight years in Seattle, Washington.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. James Drummond (Drum) Sweeney; her cherished son, Kevin John Sweeney; son in-law James Champagne; her parents, Raymond J. and Alice M. Carey Cannon; and siblings The Honorable Robert C. Cannon and Dr. Mary Alice Cannon.

Upon growing up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduating from Divine Savior Holy Angels High School and Marquette University, Jeanne taught English at Mesmer High School for a number of years. She married Drum in 1946 and their marriage, while short in years, was long in love. In 1953 they moved to Spokane, Washington where Jeanne was an active and engaged community member until 2011 when she moved to Seattle to be near her children and grandchildren. Throughout her long life, Jeanne was faithful to family and friends, her spirituality, and her many responsibilities. She was dedicated to fitness, life-long learning, and maintaining a good sense of humor! One of her great joys was playing cards with family, wonderful friends, and many different bridge groups over the decades. Jeanne will long be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and profound wisdom. She consistently met both good times and hard times with the same grace, strength, and dignity. Jeanne was simply a remarkable woman!

Jeanne will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by children Jim (Jane), Colleen, Ann Champagne, Brian (Tami), Jeff (Karen), Ellen (D.R.) Clawson, Matt (Kristine), Paul (Heidi); her adored grandchildren Ryan, Erin, Seamus, Kyle, Joe, Erica, Kevin, Sarah, Rachel, Jami, Matt, Marisa, Justin, Casey, Kelly, Kendra, Carly, Caroline, Drummond, John, Megan, Joe; eighteen great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Due to COVID, there will be a private funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church, Spokane, Washington and interment at St Joseph Cemetery.

The family wishes to express a special thanks for the extraordinary care that their mother received from Dr. Antonius Mulia, the staff at Mirabella Memory Care, and her dedicated caregiver, Gladys Wiessner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in the name of Jeanne D. Sweeney may be made to Gonzaga University to the Student Safety Net Fund or to Spokane Poor Clares.
