Joseph B. McManus, M.D. (Buddy)
Buddy passed away peacefully on Dec. 23, 2021 surrounded by his family.
Being a childhood diabetic with a love for children, he became a devoted pediatrician, receiving his undergraduate degree from Villanova, and his doctorate from Temple Medical School in Philadelphia. After practicing medicine in Delaware for 4 years, he was recruited by Holy Family Hospital in Spokane in 1988, which was the perfect fit as he had a deep love for the great outdoors. He was very proud to own and practice Pediatrics at North West Pediatrics for 33 years. His patients meant everything to him!
Upon arrival to Spokane, Buddy and his wife, Jacki, became active members of the Spokane Mountaineers and could be seen climbing, kayaking, skiing, biking, backpacking, canoe camping, running, and hiking with their dogs. A love of golf, music, and football (Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks were his teams) helped make him the well-rounded man that he was.
He is survived by Jacki, his wife of 38 years, daughters Traci Porterfield, from CA, and Jennifer and her husband, Ron LeMay of Spokane, as well as his 8 brothers and sisters: Suzie O'Neill, Tom McManus, David McManus, Polly McGowan, and Madaline Spitz all from PA, Lois Jean Shannon in CA, Mary Paski in DE and Donna McManus in MA.
We would like to express our immense gratitude to the heart-centered people of Hospice of Spokane, and Golden Road AFH for their kindness and care extended to Buddy in his time of need.
A memorial contribution can be made in his name to Rivers Wish Animal Sanctuary at P.O. Box 18371, Spokane, WA 99220-0371.
A celebration of life to honor Buddy will be forthcoming.
