Tribute

Judith Fae Greenwalt, aka Nanny, of Spokane Valley, WA, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at the age of 81. Judith was born in Odessa, WA, on September 14, 1940, to Ben Greenwalt and Edna (Hein Greenwalt) Baker. She was married to John Groh for 28 years, and together they raised two children. A housewife for much of her life, Judith found a job in the insurance industry when her children left home. Those who knew Judith well will remember her as an avid reader. Her home doubled as a small personal library, where floor-to-ceiling shelves filled with books of various genres lined the walls. She even had quite the credit built up at the local used bookstores, where she eventually took the books she could no longer fit on her shelves. Judith's other hobbies included bird watching and gardening; she was always so knowledgeable about the perfect plant. Judith also loved small dogs and adopted and loved a couple of faithful companions in her later years. Most of all, Judith was fond of her grandchildren and loved challenging them to card and dice games. In addition, she enjoyed attending their various sporting events, where she would introduce herself as "Nanny" while pointing them out to everyone nearby. Her grandchildren, however, will remember her most for her weekly Sunday phone calls, and the calls she would make each year the night before a birthday. Nanny will forever be remembered and treasured by the family she leaves behind. She is survived by her son John Groh, daughter-in-law Colleen, daughter Jane (Carrothers) Tee, and son-in-law Barry. She is further survived by her seven grandchildren: Byron Groh, Tom Carrothers, Michaela Groh, Jake Groh, Shannon Carrothers, Stacey Carrothers, Abby Groh, and one great-granddaughter, Olive Groh, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father and mother, two brothers: Marvin Greenwalt and William (Bill) Greenwalt; three sisters: Norrita Dahm, Geraldine Greenwalt, and Sally Romo. A memorial to honor and celebrate Judith's life will take place at a later date.
