Justin Andrew Phelps

   Justin Andrew “Andy” Phelps left this world April 23, 2022, with his children by his side. He was born in Bergenfield NJ and at age five the family moved to Buffalo NY. He Obtained his medical degree, specializing in surgery. In 1954, Andy married Charlotte “Chuckie” Kistka, then a surgical nurse. Called in USAF active service at the rank of Captain, he was stationed in St John’s Newfoundland where their two oldest daughters Marie and Barbara were born.

   Following discharge from the USAF, Andy and family returned to Buffalo for a short time. He then joined the VA Hospital and moved to Miles City MT. There daughter Angela and son Paul were born. Andy’s career led him to Gainesville FL, Helena MT and finally to Spokane WA as Chief of Surgery at the VA hospital where he retired in 1982.

   In 1980, Andy was ordained a Deacon and served at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish until retiring in 2003. Andy is preceded in death by his devoted wife Chuckie in 2020. He is survived by his children Marie Barnes (Jason), Barbara Tenneson (Cornel), Angela Larson, Paul Phelps (Karen) and eight grandchildren.

   It is the hope of his children that Andy now rests in contentment and happiness and that he has joined his wife of 66 years. May they continue their journey into eternity.

   The family will hold a private ceremony. Remembrances may be made to Hospice of Spokane.
