It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine Roberta Reid on May 11, 2019.
Kathy grew up in Caldwell, Idaho. After her mother’s passing, when Kathy was 13, she began years of working odd jobs while going to school to help her aunt with her expenses. She later became an LPN and moved to Spokane. She fought for better wages and working conditions for nurses at the State Legislature. She would go on to work tirelessly for respect for the West Central community and played an important role in the development of the West Central Community Center. She later was appointed a Washington State Senator and ran a close but unsuccessful campaign for Spokane County Commissioner. All of this, while running an Adult Family Home for over 20 years.
“I think we are all products of the things we have lived. I have had a successful life. Have had a strong work ethic of my aunt and the generosity and extravagance of my Mother. I can sew and clean like my aunt and cook and BS with the best of them like my Mother. It all turned out ok.”
Katherine is predeceased by her husband Donald Reid. She is survived by her daughter, Michele (Rich Zywiak) and grand children Zack and Zoe Zywiak.
