Marie Haywood passed away October 23, 2018 at North Central Care and Rehabilitation. She was born in Spokane, Washington on September 14, 1921. She graduated from Holy Names Academy, attended Business College, and then enlisted in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC). Marie worked over 30 years in retail including Pacific NW Bell, Western Pine (making ammunition box tops), Kaiser Aluminum, Spokane Credit, and The Cresent and Bon Marche department stores. Marie had a passion for travel. In the Army, she was Colonel H.V. Kelly’s secretary, typing letters to all commanders including overseas war zones. During WWII she was sent to Strategic Air Command (SAC) Bases in Texas with secret messages. She will be missed, loved and remembered. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Marie and Leo Drobig, and her son Richard “Rick” Shimp. She was survived by her daughter-in-law Penny Shimp, niece, Julie Price, and nephews, John (Linda) McGinn, Mike (Irene) Olin and Scott (Mary) Olin. We wish to thank North Central Care and Rehabilitation for the love and care provided to Marie. A Mass will be offered in memory of Marie at 4:30 pm, Saturday, November 10, 2018, at St Anthony Catholic Church, 2320 N Cedar St, Spokane, WA 99205.
