Martha J. True was born on June 7, 1922 in Torreon, Mexico where her father was the Chief Engineer of the American Smelting and Refining Company’s gold mining operations. Her family returned to the United States when she was 12 years old to live in the Denver area. Martha graduated from Arvada, Colorado High School and attended the University of Indiana. She served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II as an assistant to the 13th District Executive Officer in Seattle. Martha had lived in Spokane since 1946 when she married Paul L. True, a member of one of Spokane’s pioneer families. She had been a member of St. John’s Cathedral where she had served in the St. Francis Guild and the Altar Guild. She was a faithful volunteer in the Welcome Center at the Cathedral. Martha was involved in Japanese flower arranging and had been a member of the Rockwood Garden Club. She was also a member of Assistants, Inc. Martha is survived by her three children, Richard (Becky), Gregory (Alicia) and Christopher (Helen), 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 7th at 2PM at St. John’s Cathedral.
