Mary Kathleen Bowen

Mary Kathleen Bowen, age 72, passed away on March 23, 2020 after a brief illness. Mary was born on February 6, 1948 to Walter and Margaret Bowen. She was born on February 6, 1948 in Spokane where she lived her entire life. She was the youngest of three daughters. Mary attended St. Aloysius Grade School, Marycliff High School, and Spokane Community College where she earned her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) degree. Mary worked as an LPN in several skilled nursing facilities in the Spokane area. Mary was married for a few years in the 1970s, but the marriage ended in divorce with no children.

After Mary was no longer able to work, she met Bonnie Wheat who became her longtime roommate and companion. The two of them lived together in various settings, including the last several years in their own apartment which they were very proud of. Mary cherished her porcelain doll collection, and was devoted to the cats that she and Bonnie shared, most recently a calico named Gloria who brought much joy and entertainment to Mary’s life. She was the family historian, so she could recall many stories of her parents and their families. Mary was a kind, sweet and gentle soul.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving her are her sisters, Nancy Garrett (Spokane Valley) and Rosalie Potratz (Coeur d’Alene). She is also survived by three generations of nieces and nephews. Memorials are suggested to your favorite charity. Funeral services may be determined at a later date.
