Anita Brennan, 87, passed away Friday June 1, 2018. She was born on August 8, 1930 in Ontario, Canada to Leon and Cecile Riberdy. Anita was the oldest of 6 siblings. When she was 2, her father perished in a farm accident. Her mother went on to re-marry and Anita grew up in Windsor, Ontario. As she reached young adulthood, she contemplated the life of a Roman Catholic Nun. She spent 6 ½ years in the convent with the Sisters of St. Joseph, teaching in nearby elementary schools for part of that time. Upon deciding this wasn’t for her she moved to Harper Woods, Michigan where she continued her teaching career. On a double-date she met her love, John Charles Brennan. They were married on August 29, 1959. They had 4 children. Anita and John were married for 49 years. John died in 2008.
Anita cherished her Catholic faith her whole life. She loved Mass, the Rosary, and being involved in various groups in the church. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and cooking. Her greatest pride in life was her 4 children, their spouses and her 9 granddaughters: son Pat (Stacy) and their daughters, Molly and Sarah; daughter Maureen (Tony) and their daughter Nicole; daughter Ruth (Rob) and their daughters Danielle, Anna and Kara; daughter Karen (Rich) and their daughters Abigail, Jianna and Cecilia.
The family is thankful to the staff at Faith Adult Family Home for their loving care these last 2 years, and to Dr. Jones at Deaconess Wound Clinic for the care and respect he gave her.
A Rosary will be prayed on Friday June 29, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N Division St. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday June 30 at 10:00 Am at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 3624 West Indian Trail Road in Spokane. A reception will follow. Internment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane. All family and friends are welcome.
