Tribute

On Sunday, June 13, Matthew Joseph Fejeran, died in an accident at the age of 38.

Matthew was born on January 6, 1983, a calm winter morning in Spokane. A quiet, soft-spoken kid, he grew up a child of the 80s and early 90s. He graduated from Joel E. Ferris High School in 2001, earned his AA from Spokane Falls Community College before moving to Portland for a short while and then onto Seattle where he worked behind the bar at a number of disreputable establishments. After a number of years in Seattle, he enrolled at the Cabinet Making and Architectural Woodworking program through Seattle Central College, initiating his career as an artisan and craftsman. He worked at Warmington & North and Dovetail General Contractors before moving home to Spokane, where he bought a house and started his own business, Maple Street Cabinets.

Matthew loved hip hop, especially Atmosphere and Biggie. He loved old boomboxes and turntables.
He loved spaghetti, Slick Rock burritos, crock-pot cooking and hated mushrooms.
He loved tattoos.
He loved a good pen and notebook and a solid well-fitted hat.
He hated “fashion” but had a unique style all his own that consisted mainly of vans, Carhartt, t-shirts and hoodies.
He loved Zags basketball and the Mariners, but not the Seahawks because everyone else did.
He loved animals, most of all his cats: Lumpo and Marv.
He liked to argue and always thought he was right.
He loved a hard day’s work and the beer and shot deserved for a job well done.
He loved to draw and he loved to create cool shit.
He loved driving his Vanagon and taking super long walks.
He loved being an uncle and drawing Sharpie tattoos on his nephews August and Odin.
He was fiercely independent, hated attention and crowds, but loved his people.
He could be quiet and deliberate, but had a sarcastic, dry wit and humor that was hilarious and infectious, and a booming laugh.
He was strong and tough, but empathetic and caring.
He was proud of the house he bought and the business he started along with the fact that he was his own boss.

Matthew is survived by his loving mother, Marian, his proud father, Tim, his beautiful sister, Emily, and his “little” big-brother, Joshua. He also leaves behind numerous nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, and countless friends he considered family.

A “celebration of life” ceremony will be held Monday, June 21 from 2 to 6 pm at Iron Goat Brewing Company, 1302 W Second Ave, Spokane, WA 99201. All who knew Matthew are encouraged to attend. We also encourage anyone who wishes to bring a note, object, or memento that will accompany Matthew in cremation. (Please no metal, glass or silicon)
