Muriel Leta Holland was born in Spokane, WA on September 2, 1934 and left us on May 16, 2021. Growing up in Troy, MT she moved to Lewiston, ID for a short time before settling in Spokane in her early 20s.
She worked for years in the restaurant business at many local restaurants including The Town & Country, The Pine Shed, and The Highland House. In 1994 she graduated from Spokane Falls Community College with her Associate’s Degree in Gerontology, after which she worked as an Activity Director for several local assisted living facilities. Her favorite job, though, was working at Nordstrom in the Accessories Department.
Muriel was an amazing grandmother & great-grandmother to her seven grandchildren (Shane, Rosie, Shelbi, Chelsea, Shandy, Hanna, and Kerstin), and 13 great-grandchildren, who she loved with all of her heart. She loved flowers and pink and Starbucks and sewing and ice cream and her grand-dogs and shopping.
Preceded in death by her husband (John Holland), mother and father (Mallie & Leo Starr), her mother-in-law and father-in-law (Marion & Joe Holland), and her sister-in-law (Sr M Michelle Holland), she is survived by her brother Ernest “Squeak” Starr (Rozanna Landavazo), son Jon “Scott” (Theresa) Tubbs, daughters Teresa (Jerry) Jurgensen, Michelle Holland, and Tricia (Rocky) Way, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral mass in her honor will be held at St Thomas More Parish, 515 W St Thomas More Way, on Saturday, May 29 th at 1:00 pm. All are welcome; masks are required. And, if you are lucky enough to have one of the many wonderful masks that she tirelessly hand-sewed over the last year, that’s a bonus.
