Tribute

Patricia Buckmaster (Casey) passed away quietly at her home on Monday, January 17th after being a living treasure to her family and friends for 92 years. Born in Plaza North Dakota in 1929, she grew up in the town of Parshall with her parents Matt and Margaret Casey and 3 siblings, brothers Mike and Dominic and sister Margaret. She told of walking to the neighboring farm at the age of four to fetch the doctor to deliver her younger brother, living through the Depression and WWII years without indoor plumbing and a refrigerator, and working in the town’s general store.

The family moved to Spokane in 1948 where Patricia worked in an office downtown as a clerk. Before long she met a young air force airman whom she married in 1952. Soon, Patricia and Eugene whom she called Buck began their family. By 1956, Pat, Buck, and their three young sons were off to an air force base in Japan. Three years in Japan began a family adventure through assignments in Georgia, Tennessee, Washington, and Wisconsin. Buck retired in 1967 returning with Pat to Spokane blessed with two more children. Pat ran a busy home with five children watching them grow and begin their own adventures while easing herself back into the business world. She eventually became the manager of URM Credit Union until she retired in 1991.

After that, she had time to enjoy traveling, both as a tour escort and an independent traveler. She saw parts of the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, and Europe with time spent in her beloved Ireland. She filled the rest of her time wading into her family genealogy and becoming a master quilter, winning awards and warming many with her stunning creations.

Patricia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Buck in 1989 and her son Michael in 2014. She is survived by sons Richard Buckmaster of Denver, CO, John Buckmaster and David Buckmaster, both of Spokane, and daughter Margaret Smith also of Spokane, and her brother Mike Casey of Portland, OR.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Spokane on Monday, January 31st at 1:00pm. A rosary will be said Sunday evening, January 30th at 7:00pm also at St. Thomas More. The family asks that gifts be directed to the Poor Clares Nuns at 4419 N Hawthorne in Spokane, 99205.
