Fr. Anthony (Robert D.) Creech

Father Anthony was born March 24, 1944 to loving parents Henry H. (Harry) Creech and Dora Marie (Whitt) Creech. Father graduated high school in Lewiston Idaho (1962), the University of Washington (1966), and Nashotah House Episcopal Theological Seminary (1970).  Father was ordained Episcopal Deacon and Priest at Christ Church, Hudson, N.Y. and later served as Rector of Holy Cross, Warrensburg, N.Y.  While in the Diocese of Albany, Father became a member of the S.S.C. (Society of the Holy Cross).  Father came to Spokane and served as Rector of Holy Trinity Church. In 1995, having become disenchanted with the theological direction of the Episcopal Church, Father, along with 90% of the congregation of Holy Trinity left the Episcopal Church and became Orthodox.  This enthusiastic group founded St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church in North Spokane.  In 1998 Father became Assistant Pastor at St. Gregorios Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church.  During much of his time at St. Gregorios, Father worked at Spokane Mental Health’s Elder Services.  St. Gregorios was founded to minister to smaller Orthodox ethnic groups in Spokane that would never be large enough to have their own church.  This has been an exciting time as St. Gregorios now ministers to people from India, Pakistan, Armenia, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Ethiopia, and converts to Orthodoxy from many other backgrounds. St. Gregorios has grown to the point that it is in the process of purchasing a much larger Church building.  Father often said that his time ministering at St. Gregorios was the most joyful and fulfilling in his Priesthood.  Fr. was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Vera N White.  He is survived by many cousins throughout the U.S. and many long-time friends including Michael Bulley and faithful Doxies Sophie and Diva. An Evening Prayer Service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 7PM at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N Division.  The Funeral service will be held at St. Gregorios Church on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 11 AM with interment following at Pines Cemetery in Spokane Valley at 1:30 PM.  Memorials in his honor may be made to St. Gregorios Church, 1725 E Bridgeport, Spokane,  WA  99207.
