Robert P. Campbell (Bob), 88, passed away Sunday, May 28th, 2017 at his home in Spokane, Washington. Bob was born July 15, 1928 in Fargo, North Dakota. His family moved to the Moise Valley in Montana which always remained “home” to Bob even though his family relocated many times across the Pacific Northwest. Bob’s family returned to the Moise Valley where he attended Charlo High School. In 1946 after obtaining his high school diploma Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he trained as a hospital corpsman. He served aboard the first troop transport vessel to Korea. Later he was accepted into the Clinical Laboratory Technician program at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, where he completed further naval medical training. In his final years in the military he served at the Naval Hospital Blood Bank in Bremerton, Washington until being honorably discharged in 1953. Bob was married to Sharon Spiers of Idaho Falls, Idaho for 27 years until Sharon’s passing in 1979. Bob attended Idaho State College and the University of Washington Dental School and graduated Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1961. He established a private practice in Shelley, Idaho. In 1966 he moved to Spokane, Washington where he worked for the Veterans Administration Medical Center later becoming their Chief of Dental Services. In 1990 he retired after 24 years of service. In 1981 Bob met and married his wife of 35 years, Susanne. Together they enjoyed traveling, boating, camping, gardening and capturing life’s adventures in photography. Bob loved the game of golf, always looking forward to mornings on the course with his buddies. A lifelong Husky fan, he never missed watching their football games. Bob is survived by his wife, Susanne (Sue); stepdaughters, Ann (Chris) Klobucher and Cathy (Stuart) Bedell; stepson Mike (Linda) Crocker; grandchildren, Scott and Brad Bedell; Katie, Ellie and Leslie Crocker; and Courtney Klobucher; Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dale F. Lott. Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Holy Cross Chapel at 7200 N. Wall St, Spokane at 11:00 am with a gathering following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, the Wounded Warrior Project or any organization benefitting veterans.
