Robert K Powers, JR. (Buzz)
Buzz Powers entered this life on July 3, 1942 in Brockton, MA. as the second child of Robert K and Ann J Powers. The young family soon left the Boston area, where Robert, Sr. and Ann were born and raised, for California, then Texas and finally settled in Spokane in 1949. Buzz attended the two-room Glenrose School with sisters Pattie and Sherry before the family moved “to town” on Rockwood and the kids entered Sacred Heart grade school. Buzz was the first of the four Powers boys to graduate from Gonzaga Prep and he attended college at the University of Portland and Gonzaga University. He grew up in Spokane and Hayden Lake and lived his adult life in Portland. Buzz’s career in Hotel management included being the General Manager of the Cosmopolitan Angus, the Cosmopolitan Airtel, and the Cosmopolitan Motor Hotel in Portland. He was a veteran of the US Army.
Buzz died at his home in Portland, OR on November 18, 2018. He is survived by his beloved wife Judy Powers and his step-son Todd Slater and grand-daughter Maddie Slater. He also leaves his sisters Patricia Powers in Portland and Tracy Engdahl (Ted) in Spokane, his brothers Mark (Kim) Powers in Spokane and Sandpoint and Christopher (Stephanie) Powers in Hayden Lake and his sister-in-law Laurey Powers in Coeur d’Alene. Buzz was predeceased by his brother Geoffrey Powers and his sister Sherrill Schad. Also grieving the loss of their Uncle Buzzie are Kristina and Eric Wohlschlegel of Washington, DC, Heidi Drynan and Stephanie Bohlman of Spokane, Aimee Woodburn of Iowa City, Jason Powers of San Francisco, Alli Powers of Calgary, Ashley Powers of Post Falls, Alicia Oiness of Henderson, Kendra Engdahl of Hawaii, Kaitlin Engdahl of some remote mountaintop or river, and Sadie and Maddie Powers of Los Angeles.
The family is grateful for the services provided by Hospice of Portland in the past several months. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Doctors Without Borders, USA, PO Box 5050, Hagerstown, MD 21751 (90% of donations go to programs) or Meals on Wheels.
Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N Wall St, Spokane, WA at 11am on Friday, November 30, 2018.
