Tribute

Ronald Allan “Honest Ron” Evenson passed away June 17, 2018 in Spokane, WA at the Hospice House North.  He was born in Seattle, WA on October 27, 1966 to Ronald and Penny Nannette Evenson.  Ron leaves behind many loyal friends.  He was known for his kind heart and for sharing his many talents for fixing things.  Ron enjoyed his life in Eastern Washington where he could fish in the many lakes and rivers or go to the mountains to pick huckleberries.

To know Ronnie, aka Bonfire Ron, one could not help but have a HUGE smile on their face.  Oftentimes while having late night jeep rides with him through the starry night! His music blasting, piled on backwood ramblers, everyone hanging outside on the roll bars, side rails...where ever we could, enjoying the wind and the crisp night air.  Several travelers wearing random hats of all styles and shapes from Ronnie’s collection. He, of course, would be in full headdress, feathers flying...the “chief” of the wild tribe! Returning back with from “Ghost Camp”, often wet and always with JOY in our hearts, his cozy cabin welcoming all with a bonfire raging, white lights glowing, and continuous music filling the air...making sure we were warm and had a few good stories to tell.

Ronnie always took care of his friends and neighbors in our mountain village - EVERYONE.  We would call Ron for anything that needed fixing, computer glitches, pack rats, chimney sweeps, and yes...HUGS!

He started a traditional Christmas Eve Bonfire, hence his nickname.  Ronnie created a huge sign on a sheet of plywood and nailed to to a large tree in the middle of our mountain intersection - Grouse Creek and Cottonwood.  We would gather together in the middle of the road, a time to reunite with our remote neighbors once a year. He was the kindest man and truly cared deeply for his family and friends.

His artistic flavor and abilities were most admired.  He made beautiful Christmas wreaths from gathered cedar, oregon grape, douglas fir, and special branches that only a trusted few knew of their harvesting spot.  His Jeep always had two large wreaths, front and back, with Frank Sinatra classic Christmas songs floating through the air. His love of nature, flowers, and sculpting his forest was a joy to witness.  He would always be raking up pine needles, burning stumps, and he is the only man we knew that loved his vacuum more than any girlfriend! Yes, he was a perfectionist. We all knew it and joked constantly about it.  He was showered and pulled together, with perfect hair, BEFORE he mowed the lawn.

Ronnie was a devoted son.  He adored his Mother, cousins, nieces, family and friends to depths of the human heart that could be felt by just looking into his sparkly blue eyes.  He was the “crazy” uncle that everyone wished they had - he touched so many lives.

Every sunset, rainbow, hail storm, and bonfire smell will bring our senses back to the days we could reach out and put our arms around him.  Now we feel him in our love, our essence, in every cell of our bodies, missing him, yet knowing he is forever present.
