Tribute

Rosemary Piper Lundberg, Lord almighty.  I am ninety-two and a half years old.  I passed away Thursday, June 17thnear the stroke of midnight surrounded by my children and in my Spokane home of many years.  I am a child of the Okanogan, born in Disautel (Omak area), a daughter of Earl and Margaret Piper.   I had a vigorous childhood, picking apples in the summer and attending school, which I loved.  I ultimately attended Eastern State College (back then).  Even took acting;  however that’s where I met Jim, my husband of 62 years whom I loved dearly from the very beginning.  The following years were always a struggle as money was tight and the children kept on coming.  Eight in all.  Jim and I always wanted a large family.  And the joy.  Let me tell you it was fun.  All of it.  Dad always working to keep us housed, fed and educated.  Even the year he was away earning a Masters degree to help the family.  Luckily I have broad shoulders and kept the family humming.  As is normal one by one they left the nest but never my heart.  Boy did they all grow into their own,  enriching me with 22grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.  And did you know I am also a proud member of the Colville Confederated Tribes?  Yup.  But that’s another story.  Being an energetic person once all the kids left I pursued some of my other loves:  spinning and weaving.  I got pretty good at it.  Liked doing batik on silk too.  As I got older Jim and I also liked to gamble.  I shared many fun days with my kids gambling too.  I was mostly lucky.  I was also lucky with my last wish:  to die peacefully in my home.  I worked hard on my home and cherished the beautiful flower garden and apple orchard.  Picking apples to the last.  Canning peaches and making applesauce, nothing better in the winter.  Well, it’s time.  I get to join my husband Jim forever.  God bless.
