Sheila MacDonald passed away on February 2, 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones. Sheila was born on March 6, 1935 to Francis and Lillian Sauser in Cherokee, Iowa. She was one of eight siblings. She grew up in Spokane going to parochial school and graduated from Marycliff High School.
Sheila married Stan MacDonald on June 10, 1954 in Spokane. They had 5 children. She was a social worker, a medical transcriptionist, and a hospice volunteer.
Sheila was very active in her local parish, Assumption Catholic Church, where until recently she attended mass daily. She served as Eucharistic minister, WOTO, RCIA and several committees.
Sheila had a core group of friends known as the Jeopardy group. Gladys, Joyce, Nikki, Fran and Judy. This group began meeting monthly in October of 1972 and was a very important part of Sheila’s life. Together they shared an incredible bond that spanned over 5 decades.
Sheila was an avid quilter and crafter. She created many beautiful quilts which she shared with family and friends. She also knit hats and scarves, which she donated to those in need. The beautiful crafts she created will always be cherished by those who received them.
She will be remembered by family and friends as a loving caring woman who brought joy to all who knew her. Many lives are forever changed for having known Sheila. She was a truly kind soul who only spoke lovingly of others.
Sheila was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Stan MacDonald, her daughter, Patty Caldwell, her granddaughter, Jenny Caldwell, her siblings Terry Lystad, Frank Sauser, and Mike Sauser.
She is survived by children, Ken MacDonald (Katie), Tom MacDonald (Nancy), Karen MacDonald, Mike MacDonald (Juanita), and son-in-law, Paul Caldwell. Sheila had 14 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Sheila shared a very unique and special relationship with each of them.
Surviving siblings include Nikki Sauser, Greg Sauser, Valerie Vertz and Steve Sauser. She was an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary Mass will be held at Assumption Parish on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will also be held at Assumption Parish on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Catholic Charities of Spokane.
