Tribute

Thomas Lane Cook, 71 of Spokane, WA passed away May 17, 2023 at home of natural causes. Tom was born in Alberta, MN on June 3rd 1951. Tom was married to Diana Robertson-Davis on August 15, 1987 in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. Together they raised three children, Justin, Trishanna, and Kim. They enjoyed each other’s company for over 40 years.

Tom grew up in Alberta, MN on the family farm with his parents Robert and Laurine and graduated from Chokio-Alberta High School. He then graduated Magna Cum Laude from Moorehead State University, with a Bachelor’s degree in History. He attended several Universities and at one point wanted to be a lawyer; until he found his passion in behavioral health and recovery. He completed coursework for a Master’s Degree in Sociology and was a certified Substance Use Disorder Professional.

Tom spent the last 37 years of his life working for New Horizon Care Centers and was the Administrator of Sun Ray Court Men’s Residential Treatment Program. It is impossible to quantify the number of people who have received treatment or training from Tom. His dedication and commitment to clinicians and clients was a work of heart. He will be deeply missed by his many colleagues.

Tom loved growing up on the farm in Minnesota and told many stories about his antics as a child. He also loved traveling with Diana and they visited many places. He loved old barns, wildlife, and nature. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, or going fishing and camping. Tom had a serious nature about him, but was hilariously funny to those that were close to him.

He will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind. He is survived by his wife Diana Cook, his daughters Trishanna (Aaron) Schultz, and Kim (Joe) Justice. He is also survived by his sister Linda Cook, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Laurine Cook, his son Justin, and oldest sister Laurie Kaehler. His brother Brad cook passed away on May 22nd,2023.
