Victoria Frances “Vicki” Scrimshaw passed away on August 4, 2018 in the Spokane Hospice House North. Vicki was born on August 31, 1933 in Olive Hill, Kentucky to Stewart and Myrtle (Kiser) Hall.
After graduating high school in 1950, Vicki enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where she served as a radio operator for 3 years. She met Buck Scrimshaw in April of 1952 while they were both serving at Shaw AFB, SC. Vicki wanted to go home for Christmas that year and take Buck to meet her parents The Squadron Commander told them that since they were obviously in love and together all the time he would grant both of them an open pass if they got married. On December 20, 1952, Vicki married the love of her life, Buck Scrimshaw. Vicki left the service and travelled with Buck through 7 duty stations, finally retiring to Spokane.
Vicki was a very talented woman. She taught herself the art of cake decorating and did it professionally for 30 years. She was lovingly known as “the cake lady”. She enjoyed gardening and canning. She was also an avid quilter, sharing her creations with all of her family. Vicki delighted in watching wild life, especially the hummingbirds she fed, and was known for her chicken figurines. Vicki will always be remembered for her onion rings.
Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and a grandson, Gregory James Scrimshaw.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, William “Buck” Scrimshaw; her children, Doug, Jim (Allison), Jay and Al; her grandchildren, Deirdre, Rory, Kaylin, Zakary and Mitchell; and her great-grandchildren, Shawn, LaDiah and Gregory.
A Celebration of Vicki’s life will be held at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N Division, Spokane, on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow.
