Waldon William Westermann

September 4, 1917 ~ September 4, 2017 (age 100) 100 Years Old

Waldon Westermann, also affectionately known as 'Wes” went home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2017. He was born in New Salem, North Dakota on January 16th, 1926 to William and Erna Westermann. In his youth he enjoyed farm work and playing music with his father. At age 17 he joined the Navy and served two years during World War II surviving a Kamakazi attack on his ship the USS St. Louis. After an honorable discharge he returned to New Salem and married Lois Detring in 1947. He attended North Dakota State University and graduated in civil engineering and was a member of the Tau Beta Phi engineering honor Society. He moved his young family to Spokane in 1951 and found work with Murphy brothers. In 1958 he went to work for Central Pre-Mix Concrete Company-Prestress Division where he became a manager and Vice President. He retired in 1989 and enjoyed his lake home and boat on Pend Oreille lake in Idaho. He is survived by his wife Lois and four children Brian,David,Gary,Sandy, son-in-law Jim Phillip, daughter in law Kathryn Westermann, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Wesley, his sister Carol and his brother Duane. A visitation will be held at Hennessey Funeral Home Tuesday, September 12th, 2-5pm. A private family burial will precede the memorial service Wednesday, Sept. 13, 3:00pm at Lincoln Heights Community Church 3527 E 29th Ave.
