Tribute

Walter Robert Walinski Jr., age 63, passed away on January 7, 2022 at his home in Spokane, Washington. He was born on September 30, 1958 in Spokane, Washington to Walter Robert, (DOD November 28, 2007), and Ferne Elizabeth Walinski, (DOD April 28, 2000).

Walt grew up in Spokane, Washington. He graduated from Shadle Park High School in Spokane, Washington in 1977. After high school he began his on-the-job-training in various aspects of the residential construction business. Walt worked for several companies: Bi-State Siding and Windows and Jerry Perrington of ByState out of Tri-Cities, and Sears Home Improvement. He also worked for Inland Home Improvement here in Spokane before starting his own business, Walt Walinski Siding and Remodeling, in 2001. He never had a dissatisfied customer and was highly sought after for his quality workmanship. So many people in Spokane knew Walt. He couldn’t go anywhere without recognizing someone or being recognized and then the memories began. People who knew him liked and enjoyed him. Some of his favorite phrases were “Whatever!, I’m a good boy!,” and, “Gerber-Gerber”. He was a defender of the weak. He would never start a fight, nor was he unkind to others; yet if he got pushed, he could defend himself and others. He was one of those guys who you could call to help regardless of the time.

Walt played hockey as a young man in a team that often went to Canada. He strived to stay fit by running, bicycling, doing yoga and lifting weights. His memory was exceptional for names, dates, locations, and events. He remembered his childhood phone numbers and every address he resided at.

Walt and Connie met in 2013 and became certified state Domestic Partners in November of 2018 after living together since 2014. They were filled with joy and such love for each other that was obvious to everyone. Walt loved to ride his Harley motorcycles, owning many over the years, sometimes four to six at a time. He and Connie took many rides together on their motorcycles. He loved to visit new places and traveled with Connie to Las Vegas twice, Florida, and riding to Sturgis.

Walt is survived by Connie McGaughy of Spokane, his son Chris Walinski , grandson Jordan Walinski, and stepdaughter Windy Thompson, all of Spokane. Also his sisters Sheryl (Steve) Philabaum, Stephanie (Mark) Walker, Valerie Richardson; all of Spokane and Irene (Brain) Birdsall of Wenatchee, Washington , and Wynne Spitz (DOD June 8, 2009), along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Chapel Spokane at 511 West Hastings Road on February 1st, at 3 pm.
