Tribute

Weldon Clark Smith(80)

An extraordinary man passed peacefully from this life on November 13th, 2018. His lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s finally over. Weldon was born in Albany, NY on February 3, 1938 to Howard and Madeline(Driver) Smith.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Bobby and Jackie.

Weldon was a quiet boy and most content when he was close to the water.  Early on, he developed a passion for fishing.  Later in life, he hoisted many trophy fish in tournaments. Weldon carried a deep love for music.  He was blessed with a powerful singing voice and found great joy performing in choirs throughout his life.  A favorite was singing in the Messiah.

In his first marriage to the late, Anna Ellers, he fathered Weldon Jr. and Wendy.  He loved the outdoors and spent many days camping, hunting, fishing and boating with his family.  His children have fond memories of going to the car races with him as well.

Feeling the pull to leave the East and experience California,  he quickly found employment in management at American Tractor Company in Oakland, CA.  Life in the Bay Area suited him well. He really enjoyed living in his boat on the Sacramento Delta. During his commute over the Antioch Bridge across the Delta, he began to fancy a cute toll collector named Mary.

Eventually, Mary and Weldon would become one and share the remainder of their lives together.  His career transitioned to road construction.  He became well known for his skill at estimating and managing large road projects.  This work would take Mary and Weldon to many cities across the northwest states.

He carried a gentle loving demeanor, quick to laugh and freely shared his humor with those close to him.  He loved the Lord and found great joy and happiness in serving others. ````

Weldon is remembered with love by: Mary Lou Seyboth, Sandy (Gene) Gordon, Weldon Jr. (Janet) Smith, Wendy Smith, Gary Misbach, Sue (Robert) Brooke, Brent (Claire) Misbach, Steve Misbach, Dave Misbach, the late Mark Misbach, Kathy Stratton, Pam (Andy) Niska, Ron (Amy) Misbach, 29 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 401 West Regina Spokane, WA. 99218 on Friday, November 23rd at 11:00 with a viewing at 10:00.
