Lauretta Strang

March 19, 1929 ~ July 23, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Lauretta Strang (age 88) March 19, 1929-July 23, 2017

Lauretta spent the past week at her beautiful summer home on Loon Lake, WA with her son-in-law, two granddaughters and their families from Burien, WA and Woodside, CA. She enjoyed watching as most of her extended family stopped by to swim, build sand castles, share BBQ and reminisce. Lauretta died suddenly but peacefully Sunday evening July, 23rd and will be so greatly missed. She touched the lives of so many people in her 88 years and was the best daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma, aunt and friend anyone could ever want. She now joins her daughter Lolly, who went before her five years ago, and they can sip coffee and window shop together again. Lauretta was born on March 19, 1929 in Farmington, WA to Joseph and Josephine (Joie) Weinhandl. She spent summers on the farm with her grandparents, attended St. Francis of Assisi grade school, Marycliff High School, and a brief time in nursing college. She was a member of St. Thomas More parish and active with the Altar Society; years ago when her children were attending St. Thomas More, she painted the hallways with elaborate pictorials and motifs at each classroom door. She was an avid gardener and very proud of her roses and begonias. She was very artistic and enjoyed tole painting, oil painting and watercolors, ceramics as well as bridge, golf, GU basketball, ballroom dancing and Spokane Symphony POPS Concert Series. Lauretta is survived by brothers Rudy Weinhandl, Kirkland, WA and Roly Weinhandl and sister-in-law Julie whom she considered the sister she never had; children Rick (Sue) Willis, Francine (Keith) Lewis, Mike (Judy) Willis, Tim (Lori) Thomas; son-in-law Greg Hoerner; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 3 nieces and one nephew. Lauretta is predeceased by her daughter Lauralie (Lolly) Hoerner, and stepchildren Donna, Greg and Patty Thomas. Also by the fathers of her children: Richard E Willis and Donald M Thomas; also Robert B Strang. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Thomas More Church, 505 W St. Thomas More Way, on Tuesday, August 1st at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials may be made to National Cancer Research Center.
