Richard Louis Hanson, “Dick”, was born July 30, 1951 to Gordon and Bertha Hanson in Spokane, WA. Dick passed away at his home in Spokane on July 21, 2017. He is survived by his ex-wife, Molly Black, his three children, Tim/June (Harley and Loretta), Kevin/Jenny (Chloe and Phoebe), and Kate/Rene, (Brady and Finley). Dick comes from a large family and is the youngest of seven: five brothers, Bob, Jim (passed 2007), Don, Bill, Chuck and his sister, Diane. Dick also fit in perfectly with Molly’s equally large and fun-loving family. He truly loved the Blacks. Dick graduated from G-Prep in 1969 and EWU in 1973 with a sociology degree. From there he worked for Catholic Charities for 10 years, was a business owner at the Lamp Post Tavern for 2 years, and was a regional manager for the Spokesman-Review for over 20 years. He was also a beloved bartender at the Satellite Bar. He was an avid sports fan of local and regional athletics, including the Rogers Pirates, G-Prep Bullpups and Gonzaga Bulldogs, WSU Cougars, Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners and of course, the MSU Bobcats. Always the life of the party at family and friends gatherings, Dick was loved by all. A great jokester and storyteller, his lighthearted sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met. Dick’s kindness to everyone was always noted. Dick’s (and his groovy friends’) love of music was always a mainstay of his and his family’s lives. Two of his children are professional musicians today. Dick and Molly surely paved the way for this wonderful life passion. The Funeral service for Dick will be at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division, on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on N. Wall. Reception to follow at the Mc Ginnity Room, 116 W. Pacific.
